Does coffee make anxiety worse?

Coffee has long been a beloved beverage that helps kickstart our day and keep us energized. However, for individuals who struggle with anxiety, the effects of coffee may not be as positive. While some people find that caffeine boosts their mood and focus, others may experience heightened anxiety, restlessness, and jitteriness after consuming coffee. This is because caffeine stimulates the central nervous system. In other words, it can increase heart rate and blood pressure, which exacerbates anxiety symptoms. Have you ever noticed that the caffeine “jitters” feel similar to feeling anxious?

Caffeine can also interfere with sleep quality, which is crucial for managing anxiety. Therefore, for individuals prone to anxiety, it may be worth considering decreasing to one cup of coffee per day instead of a whole pot. If one cup still impacts your anxiety, you can opt for decaf. I know coffee can feel like a must! Best advice….listen to your body and see how coffee affects you!
