OCD Treatment Explained

OCD

Phobia, anxiety disorders, and OCD are treatable. There are several therapy approaches that can improve your quality of life. Below are those examples:

  1. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals identify and challenge irrational beliefs and thought patterns. OCD sufferers can learn coping strategies to manage their anxiety and avoidance behaviors.

  2. Exposure Therapy: This form of CBT involves gradually exposing you to their fear in a controlled and safe manner, helping you desensitize and reduce your anxiety.

  3. Response Prevention: As a second step of the exposure therapy, you will learn to refrain from doing compulsions or rituals. By resisting or delaying your compulsions, you will inevitably decrease or eliminate the OCD cycle.

  4. Medications: In some cases, medication may be prescribed to manage symptoms of anxiety or depression associated with your phobia. *I do not provide prescriptions but am happy to coordinate the care you need.

  5. Support Groups: Joining support groups or seeking peer support can be helpful in sharing experiences and strategies for managing OCD. A great resource is to look on Facebook or Meetups for OCD support groups.

The therapies discussed above are not to be done on your own. It is recommended to have a trained mental health professional help you with your anxiety and OCD. Otherwise, you may put yourself at risk of making your OCD worse. To learn more about how treatment can help you with your anxiety or OCD, click the button below to schedule your free consultation!
